We’ve recently received additional information from Hrafn Agustsson regarding Rocky’s location in Iceland. He’s joined a group of 3 families (12 swans) that have been present since the autumn, looks to be in good condition and is unpaired. The site is a sheltered bay close to Reykjavik where swans have over-wintered in previous years. People feed the swans daily with bread and the birds also have no problem in finding food themselves along the shoreline. So it seems that Rocky may be one of c. 1,500 swans who’ll spend the winter in Iceland. Certainly given the current snowy conditions in Britain and Ireland, there seems little advantage to Rocky and other swans remaining in Iceland in migrating, at least until the New Year!
